Taylor Swift & Selena Gomez Super Fan 'Jordan' Shares What Makes Both Women Such Great Role Models

Updated: Sep 20, 2021

"Both woman are so powerful and support everything I believe in such as woman empowerment. I can really connect with them because they aren’t afraid to talk about things that matter." - Jordan

Hi Jordan! Thank-You so much for taking some time out to chat with us about your life as a fan of Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez. To start things off would you mind introducing yourself to our readers?

Sure! Hi readers, my name is Jordan Rumsey, I’m 18 and I’m so glad to have this opportunity!

It's so lovely to meet your Jordan! I'm really excited to chat with you about Taylor and Selena today, they're both such talented women! So how long have you a fan of both artists and what are your first memories of them?

I have been a fan of Taylor’s since around 2010. I had heard some of her music before but I really started listening to her when I was around 7 years old. I used to rewatch the Mine music video constantly! I have been a fan of Selena's since 2007, I believe. I used to watch Wizards Of Waverly Place and Barney growing up; then I got her Kiss and Tell CD when it came out in 2009 and jammed to the songs all the time. Every year after when she had a new album I would beg my Mom to go and get the new cd!

Wow! You’ve been a fan for so long…people’s taste in music often change as they grow older yet you’ve remained a dedicated fan for over ten years! What do you think it is about both women that’s encouraged you to remain a fan throughout the years?

My music taste has changed a lot but I still listen to their music because I love it and always feel special when I listen to it. Both woman are so powerful and support everything I believe in such as woman empowerment. I can really connect with them because they aren’t afraid to talk about things that matter. A quote from Selena I have on my wall is “All the people who try to knock me down only inspire me to do better” and I live by that quote. They both love and adore their fans which mean so much!

Can you tell us about the impact that Taylor and Selena have had in your life during that time? How have they inspired you?

They have both inspired me to be the best person I can be! I love to look up to them and follow in their footsteps.

In just three words how would you describe both women?

I would describe them both as: empowering, special, and unique.

You mentioned the word 'empowering' which is such a profound way to describe Taylor and Selena. Both women have a huge following across all ages and I can only imagine being in the spotlight from such a young age must have been tough yet both women seem so down to earth and unfazed by that level of fame. What is it about both women that makes them such 'empowering' role models?

I think what makes them good role models is that they are both loving and caring to others. I love how they try to do everything for everybody. It gives me something to look up to. I grew up with them as well and so I look up to both of them like a best friend even though I’ve never personally spoken to them (hopefully someday I will!)

I've got my fingers crossed that you get the chance to meet them! I'm sure they'd be so sweet in person! Taylor and Selena have been in the industry for years and have achieved so much in their respective fields. Speaking as a fan, what is your proudest moment?

Oh my gosh! I have so many proud moments, it’s so hard to choose. Whenever they go through something they always come back stronger than before.

Obviously we all know Taylor and Selena for their successful careers in music and in acting (Selena) but I’m sure there’s so much that the public aren’t aware of? Tell us something about them both that we might not already know…

One thing about Taylor I love is her connection with fans. There’s so many of us on Twitter and Tumblr and I know she can’t “stalk” all of us but she does the most she can and I love how she invites fans to meet her backstage or at her house! Like honestly that’s a dream but she really chooses worthy fans to meet her which I love. She’s in full control of who she meets.

With Selena most people say she can’t sing. I wanna slap those people honestly, 'cause they have apparently never seen her live. When I went to her revival concert she sang the whole time live and it sounded perfect! You could tell she was singing live and even though people try to bring her down she always tells the facts. I’m waiting for her to write a book cause I would totally buy 100 copies. I think people target her because they are jealous. She is such a kind and sweet person and I wish I could take away all the hate she gets. People are jealous of her cause she is an amazing person.

Let’s talk music…Do you have a favourite song by Selena and Taylor?

It’s so hard to chose a favorite song but for Taylor it’s 100% Long Live from her Speak Now album. I love it because even though it is a sad love song, I can relate it to my friends. I have lost so many friends in my life and I also have so many good friends. I definitely cry during the song but it just means so much to me. My favorite Selena song is so hard to choose cause I love all of them but my top favorites are I Won’t Apologize, As A Blonde, Live Like There’s No Tomorrow, Sad Serenade, and Let Me Get Me.

When we initially spoke on Twitter you mentioned a really sweet memory about Selena’s ‘A Year Without Rain’ CD. Would you mind sharing that particular memory with our readers? How do you feel listening to that album all these years later; does it bring back childhood memories?

Wow...it’s literally one of my favorite memories. When I got A Year Without Rain back in 2010 I listened to it constantly! Like constantly! I would teach my sister the lyrics to the songs and we would listen to it in the car on the way to summer camp and on road trips. My CD and case is so damaged cause I have listened to it so many times. Just picture me singing Rock God with so much sass haha.

Moving forward to the present day, Selena still remains just as active and this past year has been proof of that with the release of her first album since 2016 ‘Rare’ as well as her first TV acting role since 'Wizards of Waverley Place' in Hulu’s ‘Only Murders In The Building’ alongside collaborations with artists such as Blackpink, Trevor Daniels and DJ Snake to name just a few. As a fan it must feel pretty exciting to see Selena so active! With that in mind, what would you say has been the highlight?

I love seeing Selena so active. She loves her fans and is so passionate about her job and her career. I got Rare the day it came out and was so excited cause I love hearing new music. I heard that’s she might want to stick with acting for a while so I will really miss her music if she chooses to do that but ultimately it is her life and I will always support her acting as well. And if she doesn’t make a new record then I will always have the other albums to look back on and listen to. Rare is such an amazing album I love to dance to all the tracks!

Taylor also has been particularly active in the world of music during the Pandemic which saw her release two incredible albums as well as re-recordings of her earlier hits ahead of the a re-release of her debut album ‘Fearless’…it’s been quite a year for Swifties don’t you think?

I am so proud of Taylor! I was so shocked cause I thought the re-records were coming after lover but she surprised us with two bonus albums!! I was overwhelmed at first but I quickly started loving the tracks! I can’t wait to hear her second album re-recorded. I’m not sure when she’s gonna re-record her first album or if she’ll re-record Beautiful Eyes or the Christmas album... but I think Fearless is a great album to re-record. I can’t wait to see how much her voice has matured and I can’t wait to own all the re-records and put them in my Taylor CD collection. She is such a smart and wise person.

So have you ever had the chance to see Taylor or Selena live?

Yes!!! I have seen both of them live! I really wanted to see Selena's 'We Own The Night' and 'Stars Dance' tour but my mom said I was too young at the time. I did end up going to her 'Revival' concert! Oh my god...it was amazing! I can’t even explain how much I cried! I have seen Taylor twice; during her '1989' world tour and the 'Rep' tour. I loved them both and cried when she sang 'Long Live' on the 'Rep' tour. I cried so hard cause that song means so much to me.

Seeing your favourite artist in concert is always such a buzz but there’s nothing quite like that moment they first step out on stage…How did you feel seeing them in person for the first time? Can you remember what was going through your head?

Really just screams were going on in my head. It felt so surreal and I couldn’t believe they were in the same building as me! I can’t wait to see them live again!

Are there any moments that particularly stick out in your mind from the concerts? Any highlights?

Everything was a highlight from the music to confetti!

You’ll be pleased to know that we’re almost at the end of the interview but before we go, I have two more questions. If you had the opportunity to meet Taylor and/or Selena, what would you say to them?

Wow, if I ever met them I would try to control my cries. I would give them a big hug and just say how much them mean to me. They don’t even know how much they have helped me through the years. I grew up with them. I don’t know what I would say I would probably be in shock cause they mean so much to me and it’s so amazing to say that them being an individual person has helped so many. It’s truly amazing.

And finally…at the end of each interview we sign off with a song recommendation so now’s your chance! If you could recommend a song by both Taylor and Selena to someone who’s unfamiliar with their music what would you pick?

I would suggest to listen to 'Long Live', 'The Moment I Knew' and 'Picture to Burn' by Taylor Swift. I would also suggest you listen to 'As A Blonde', 'Rock God', 'Whiplash' ( written by queen Britney Spears), 'Undercover' and 'Cologne' by Selena Gomez. I love those songs so much!

A huge Thank-You to Jordan for agreeing to speak with me!!! I couldn't agree more, Taylor and Selena are such incredible women and I couldn't think of better role-models for people of our generation. It's so lovely to hear what they mean to you and I sincerely hope you have the opportunity to meet with both women one day - please let me know if you do!
